The 2024 UConn Invitational at GreatHorse featured 13 collegiate teams, with Rhode Island claiming the team title at +5, finishing 10 strokes ahead of second-place UConn (+15). St. John’s finished third at +16, Boston College came in fourth at +17, and Sacred Heart rounded out the top five at +32. Fairfield University and Villanova tied for sixth place.
Individually, the tournament saw a thrilling finish, with Peicheng Chen of St. John's capturing the individual title. Chen finished at 4-under-par, narrowly beating Rhode Island's Tyler Bruneau and UConn's Ray Dennehy, who both tied for second at -3. Dennehy, who started the tournament with an eagle on the first hole and eight birdies on day one, posted strong round s but ultimately came up one stroke short. Bruneau, who led much of the way, was also just one shot behind Chen after a late-round slip.
Other notable individual performances included UConn's Connor Goode, who tied for sixth place at even par, and Fairfield’s Colin Summers, who finished fourth with a score of -2 after carding rounds of 69 and 70.
The GreatHorse course itself, spanning 7,577 yards, is a challenging venue known for its beautiful but demanding design. With 207 strategically placed bunkers and sloping greens, the course tests even the best collegiate golfers. Players had to navigate the natural undulations and changing wind conditions, which contributed to high scores across the field, especially during the final round.
